Yikes ! I just finished reading an E-Book called "Dirty Truth about your cleaning Lady" I am horrified. These are true stories from real people and this can happen to anyone. If you hire the wrong person, sadly you won't know until it's too late.
If you are hiring an individual cleaning lady make sure you do a background check, sometimes it's enough just to search your local town patch for police logs with your house cleaners name. This person will have full access to your home so pay the $25 for a FULL national background check, just to be safe.
Rhode Island has a free Public online Data Base, and other states do too, Please do your homework when hiring a House cleaner.
God forbid, your house cleaner is an escaped child molester, drug lord, or a thief and trying to gain your trust to get access to your home and family. Or perhaps they are just waiting for the moment to be right so they can fake a fall and sue you for all you are worth.

For the Record, I have my CORI and SORI run atleast 3 times a year by my kids schools, and my kids sports organizations (I volunteer A LOT). So if you would like to do your own background check on me, you are free to do so.
I am fully insured so I would expect my insurance company also ran a background check on me as well. But I do carry my policy binding page on estimates so if you would like proof, please just ask !

Anyone can have a business card printed, it is up to the homeowner to make sure your cleaning service is legit and legal. After all the homeowner is ultimately an employer of any individual "uninsured" house cleaner and responsible for any injuries on their property.
All of my income is counted, no matter how you pay me. I accept Checks, Cash or Credit Cards that process directly to my business checking account. All of my taxes are paid, that may just be the CPA in me but I am meticulous about every penny being accounted for and I know the IRS is too.
I am not trying to get rich by cleaning houses, I vacation in the US (when I vacation) and my income pays for the simple things in life like clothes and food for my kids. Tae Kwon Do, Gymnastics classes, football, baseball, and soccer.
